Configuration - MP3 encoding using ICES

Overview

This guide will walk you through setting up file encoding using ICES 0.4. Normally AutoDJ will automatically encode the files for use; this method requires manual encoding to be performed but will put less strain on the CPU.

Configuring your server for ICES 0.4

To begin streaming using ICES 0.4 you must first either create a new server or configure an existing server. Navigate to the Source tab and Select ICES 0.4 as your source type. In the same tab change the Re-encode playlist option to NO. Finally you must set your bit rate to the appropriate level you wish to stream at.

Downloading a media Encoder

Now that the server has been set up you must download the software to encode the files manually.
MediaCoder is a good encoder and can be downloaded for free from: http://www.mediacoderhq.com/dlfull.htm
For media encoder to function correctly you may have to download an additional codec from xvid which can also be downloaded for free from the following link: http://www.xvid.org/Downloads.15.0.html

Encoding your audio files

Once you have downloaded and installed MediaCoder and the Xvid codec, Open MediaCoder and click Start MediaCoder. You should now see the menu below:

You can now drag and drop files into the file box and configure the settings for the transcoded files.
In the file menu of Media coder you can select the destination of your re-encoded files.

In this menu you will have to change the bit rate and sample rate to match the settings you have on your server. The settings used when creating this guide were:
Task Mode: Normal
Pre-set: Custom
Rate Mode: CBR
Bit rate: 128kbps
Sample rate: 44100 HZ

Once you have entered the correct settings click start and the files will be encoded and saved to the destination folder you specified.

MAKE SURE THAT THE BITRATE AND SAMPLE LIMIT ARE CONSISTANT WITH THE LIMITS IN YOUR SERVER SETTINGS. IF THE SETTINGS ARE INCONSISTANT THEN THE FILES MAY NOT PLAY CORRECTLY.

Uploading the re-encoded songs to AutoDJ

Now that you have re-encoded your songs, log into you Media Control Panel and select the server you created or configured at the start of this guide.

Click overview and select AutoDJ.
Now upload the songs you have encoded into AutoDJ and create a playlist using the drag and drop functionality.
Click Save changes then Start AutoDJ.

AutoDJ will now play your songs without encoding them, this will free up processing power on your computer.
